I am an American focolarina who knew Fonte only from my start in the focolare in the late 70s.
My experience of Fonte was that he had a capacity of communion without saying a word. He was one of those popi whom I would call Marian. He had a Marian soul. He reminded me of St. Pauls: "There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus."
Fonte lived like this, on the supernatural plane. He loved Jesus in the other, drawing the other to do the same.
This experience remains until today like a template for me of how relationships between popi e pope are when we are in God.
